New musical and movie arrive in New York

A pair of interesting viewing opportunities will be arriving in NYC this weeking, with something to float the boat of both those looking for family entertainment, and those seeking more gritty, true-to-life stories.

The new exciting musical ‘A Mermaid’s Tale’ will be performed at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, at Stage 72, The Triad in New York City just 30 minutes form Elmsford.

The musical was created by John Stutte and Jack Dyville and just had a two-week run in Brooklyn, as well as three months in Queens. The show is 70 minutes long and geared to children and adults. It is based on the novel ‘The Sea Fairies’ by L. Frank Baum.

The setting is a school auditorium where students prepare to give book reports on characters from Baum’s novel. Watch as the students make everything just a little more ‘magical’.

That same evening, expect to see more cinematic poster printing in the area as ‘Triggering Wounds’ will hold its theatrical premiere at 7:30pm on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Maysles Cinema in New York.

The production is presented by The Maysles Institute Teen Producers Academy students and produced by No Straight Media. Local attorneys and hospitals also partnered with the students to help produce the show.

The storyline is based on the real life tale of Harlem man who has to deal with the effect gun violence has had on his community and his young life. One of the students has described it as “a fairly raw film” in keeping with the harsh realities of the subject matter.
