East Northport bang on target as November ends

Two upcoming events in the area are allowing locals some very different ways to hit their targets.

Tomorrow morning, locals can take a step back in time and learn how to shoot with an arrow. An introduction to archery class will be offered at Queens Archery, 170-20 39th Avenue in Flushing.

The class begins at 10:30 am and will teach participants the technical aspects of using a bow and arrow just like Robin Hood. A safety lesson will be taught at the beginning of class, which is 90 minutes long.

Archery was the technique of choice for hunting and defense until the development of firearms displaced it. It then became a hobby of the wealthy in the 19th Century and today is used primarily for recreation, competition, and hunting.

The class fee is $30 and includes equipment and lesson. For more information, call (718) 461-1756.

On Tuesday, November 26, East Northport residents can develop their public speaking skills with a class that emphasizes the use of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).

Instructor Judith Lowe, a public speaking expert from the UK, will offer this master class at 9:30 am at Avonmouth House, 6 Monmouth Street in Deer Park.

Participants will learn how to communicate effectively with groups and audiences, express their purpose, deal positively with inner fears and doubts, and give constructive feedback.

The session stresses that body movements, gestures, and breathing, all tell a story and should be made part of the communication. With business professionals likely to be in attendance, arranging a business card printing order in advice may be prudent.
