Ridge Street School gets its teeth into poster competition

As February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, dental health experts from Horizon NJ Health recently visited the Ridge Street School in Newark, New Jersey as a way to raise awareness in the community about the significance of dental health for children.

Horizon NJ Health is using a poster printing to help children understand how important proper dental health is to their overall health, with a poster competition sure to get the kids creative.

According to the Clinical Affairs/Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Horizon NJ Health, Philip Bonaparte, M.D., the program will involve health educators going into the schools and teaching children how important good dental hygiene habits are, such as proper nutrition, flossing, brushing, and regular visits to the dentist.

In addition, a poster contest will be held which will enable children to create posters after they have attended the program. “Rock Your Smile” is the theme for the contest this year and winners will be announced on February 28.

Bonaparte added that the poster contest makes learning about the prevention of tooth decay and the importance of good oral health in a fun manner and has proven to be an effective tool. Students from all schools in the city are encouraged to participate.

Horizon NJ Health is a subsidiary of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. It has a large selection of doctors which has made it one of the leading Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare plans in New Jersey.
