MOWTE benefited by Holiday Appeal

The Times recently announced that its readers, businesses in the area and charitable organizations have raised $47,867 for the Holiday Appeal to help Meals on Wheels of Trenton/Ewing (MOWTE).

MOWTE is an organization which provides meals on a daily basis to those who are homebound or who are unable to go grocery shopping and prepare their own meals. The Times is using its own printing services to make the community aware of this accomplishment and print the names of the donors and their donations if requested.

It has been providing hot and nutritious food and other services for over years so that the health, independence and well-being of the homebound in the community can be maintained. More than 175 volunteers from the community deliver over 200 meals a day to almost 170 clients for a total of over 44,000 meals a year.

Often these volunteers are more than a delivery person who provides meals for the homebound. Typically they are the only people that they see on any given day and provide a special smile and a caring heart.

According to the executive director of MOWTE, Sasa Olessi Montaño, the Holiday Appeal comes at a time when it is needed the most. By working with the Times, MOWTE is able to let readers in the community become aware of the work it does and how much senior hunger there is in Mercer County.

She added that the readers of The Times and local businesses have been very generous which shows confidence in the work which her organization does but also serves to acknowledge the problem of hunger in the county.
