Open mic night raises the volume ahead of hectic spell

There are more things going on than one can shake a stick at over the next couple of weeks, kicking off with an open mic night at Under St Marks Theatre next week.

The show begins at 9:00 pm on Tuesday, May 21. Penny’s Open Mic is an opportunity for some of the most talented performers in New York to entertain.

The only limitations for performances are no heckling, fire, or glitter. The theater is located 45 minutes from East Brunswick at 94 St Marks Place on Staten Island.

Locals should also be on the lookout for bicycle riders on May 23 when the sixth leg of the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride Inc., takes place from New York City to East Brunswick. It continues on to Collingdale, Pennsylvania.

The bike ride pays its respects to emergency medical personnel and celebrates the lives of people who have died, or become injured or sick, while on duty.

The goal of the ride is to use physical activity and nutrition to promote healthier lifestyles for EMS personnel. Flyer printing is one way local community organizers promote their upcoming events.

That weekend, a special Memorial Day observance will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Veterans Park East Brunswick Municipal Complex, 1 Jean Walling Drive.

Events include a flag-raising ceremony, presentation of wreaths, Hometown Heroes Roll Call and a mini patriotic concert.

As if all this is not enough, also coming up is the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life in East Brunswick, held on June 1 at Heavenly Farms Park.
