Festival celebrates the Norfolk tradition of sailing

The 42nd annual Norfolk Harborfest is taking place next month for three days.

The festival pays tribute to the history of the harbor as well as providing a great way for the community to come together.

One of the most popular parts of the festival is sure to be the display of several tall ships from all over the country. They include the American Rover from Norfolk, the Godspeed from Jamestown, and the Sultana from Chestertown, Maryland. There will also be a Parade of Sail in which all boaters can participate.

Entertainment will be provided on three stages. Some of those performing at this year’s festival are American Authors, The Family Stone, the Brandon Bower Band, Firefall, and The Commonheart. There will also be a wine and craft beer garden, a Colours Junkanoo street party, pirate school, and the build-a-boat challenge. Guests can rest in Cabanaland hammock hangout.

Other activities include a hot dog eating contest that qualifies the winner for the national Nathan’s competition on Independence Day, various games, and a fireworks display over the water.

No doubt a Norfolk flyer printing company will provide flyers and other printed materials to advertise this popular annual festival.

Norfolk Harborfest will be held at Town Point Park from June 8 to 10. Admission is free of charge. For the most current information, call 757-441-2345.
