NSCC names Peabody resident Forsstrom as interim president

July 27, 2013 by

North Shoe Community College (NSCC) recently announced that Janice Forsstrom of Peabody has been appointed as interim president of the College. No doubt various printing services are being used to let those in the community become aware of this appointment, with the retirement of Wayne Burton due on July 31st after 13 years of service.

Forsstrom has most recently been Vice President of Administration and Finance and has served the college for 39 years. She has said that she finds the college a wonderful place to work and has developed friendships with many colleagues over the years. She is very much looking forward to her new role, which she feels will enable a smooth transition to a permanent presidential position by the end of the year.

Forsstrom was appointed by the Board of Trustees, as she has been very involved in all aspects of the college during her tenure there and has experience as an administrator in strategic planning, finance, administrative systems, information technology, and facilities planning. She is a strong advocate for the use of technology in education.

As part of her last position, she has been in charge of an annual operating budget of $50m on the four campuses of NSCC which includes about 13,000 students. She was also the project manager for the construction of the Health Professions and Student Services building which opened in 2012 and is a highly energy-efficient building – the first zero net energy facility in Massachusetts.

Forsstrom officially takes up her role on August 1.
