Newburyport to host winter carnival this weekend

The Newburyport Youth Services (NYS), the Newburyport Parks Commission, and the Barlett Mall Commission are currently planning the Winter Carnival to be held this weekend at the Bartlet Mall in Newburyport. Most likely the organizers of the event are using a variety of printing services to help them advertise it.

The event is free and open to the entire community. The day’s activities will include open skating, snowboarding, and sledding. Also on offer are winter fairy house building, snowshoe demonstrations by REI with free snowshoe rentals, and horse drawn hayrides from Scott Colby of Colby Farms.

The NYS is partnering with the Newburyport Mother’s Club to host activities for the children. The Mother’s Club will be offering the outdoor activities and the NYS will offer the indoor activities at the former Kelley School. There will be free hot chocolate and cookies provided throughout the day, as well as music from WNBP to accompany the skaters, snowboarders, and sliders during the day.

The Fifth Annual Human Dog Sled Race is also planned and will feature teams of five people or fewer where one person is the driver and the rest act as sled dogs in a race across Frog Pond. Sleds are to be provided by each team with rope for attaching the dog team to the sled. Restrooms and a place to warm up will be provided by the Kelley School Youth Center.

It will all be held tomorrow, January 11, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
