Torrington to host Contemporary Ballet Repertoire

March 21, 2014 by

This weekend, Torrington residents will have the opportunity to enjoy one of its own contributions to the arts, the Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory.

The conservatory in conjunction with the Warner Theater will present Impact 2014, a performance event that will showcase the conservatory’s Neo-Classical and Contemporary Ballet Repertoire danced by its students and faculty. It will also feature the Torrington School of Ballet children.

Eleanor D’Antuono, Victoria Mazzarelli, Tim Melady, and Susan Szabo will be dancing in ‘Highlights from Sleeping Beauty’. Kirk Peterson, the artist in residence, will be presenting excerpts from ‘Raymonda, Lombardi Variations’. Guest teacher Moses Pendleton will present some new material from his dancer-illusionist company MOMIX repertoire while senior ballet mistress Denise Warner Limoli and guest artist Brian Reeder, will also be presenting some new works. The conservatory is likely to have been working with local printing companies to create brochures to go with these performances.

The school teaches classical ballet to talented dancers in grades 7-14. After annual nationwide grueling auditions, male and female students settle into a rigorous schedule of classes where they learn the traditional Russian Vaganova method, which has produced such greats as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Markarova, and Rudolf Nureyev.

This event will be presented twice, on March 22 at 8:00 pm and March 23 at 2:00 pm, at the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre, 82 Main Street, Torrington.
