Torrington to host ‘Alchemia’ dance extravaganza

January 10, 2014 by

Soon, Torrington connoisseurs of the arts can once again enjoy the dance as only Momix can present it. Using the theme of the four elements of earth, fire, air, and water, art director Moses Pendelton has once again created an eye-catching program, this one titled ‘Alchemia’.

Alchemy, and its role in art, are the focal points for Pendelton’s concept. Momix’s dancer-illusionists will be performing a multimedia extravaganza using beauty, invention, humor, and sensuality. Scenes from Alchemy, as well as those from Pendelton’s last production ‘Botanica’, are works of art that would be interesting subjects for graphic designers and print companies.

For over 30 years, Momix has been entertaining audiences around the world in more than 55 countries with stage performances, as well as in television and film. The company was part of Rhombus Media film Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’, which won an International Emmy award for Best Performing Arts Special. It also was in one of the first IMAX films to be distributed worldwide.

Pendelton has been a choreographer and director for over 40 years. He choreographed the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremonies in 1980 at Lake Placid. The next year, he created Momix, and he has also managed to fit in work with the Arizona Ballet, the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet , the Joffrey Ballet, and the Deutsch Opera.

The two performance of Alchemy will be held Saturday January 18, at 8:00 pm and Sunday, January 19, at 2:00 pm, both at the Warner Theatre, 68 Main Street, Torrington.
