Torrington residents to roll up for circus

October 16, 2013 by

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus presents its 2013 show called ‘Dragons’ in just over a week’s time.

Less than an hour’s drive from Torrington in Bridgeport, people and their families can enjoy an American tradition; the circus. The preshow opens an hour before the performance and all ticket holders will be able to develop balancing skills, learn how to juggle, meet the clowns, and watch an Asian elephant paint an original masterpiece.

Dragons are the theme for this year’s show, and acts are presented as tribes that must prove their virtue in areas of wisdom, strength, courage, and heart in order to awaken the dragons appearing at the end of the performance. Accompanying the traditional lion tamers, balancing acts, clowns, and aerial acts will be Kung Fu masters, folk dancers, and horse, dog, and goat acts.

Jonathan Lee Iverson will be the ringmaster. A veteran, he was not only the first African American to be a ringmaster for the Barnum and Bailey Circus, but was also the youngest. Premium seat holders will get a chance to be a part of the show—coaxed from their seats and onto the floor by dancers and clowns—they will get a much closer view of the action. Those who wish to get the word out may utilize printing companies for banner advertising.

The event will be held at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers’ Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard, 600 Main Street, Bridgeport on Sunday, October 27, at 1:00 pm. Admission prices range from $29 to $120 and can be purchased online through Ticketmaster.
