Dress sale benefits more than just HK seniors

One way Middletown residents in need of a prom dress can save some money, and do a good deed at the same time, is by heading over to Higganum this weekend.

Project Graduation, a group of Haddam Killingworth High School parents, sponsors an annual party every year after graduation to provide a safe way for the kids to celebrate. This year, one way they will be raising money is by selling new and gently used prom dresses. With a selection of nearly 150 dresses in a variety of colors, sizes and styles, it will be worth the effort for Middletown girls and their mothers to stop and browse.

In addition to possibly snagging a low-cost dress, short styled dress for $25 and long ones $50, there are other goodies to grab as well. Local merchants are participating by offering discounts on their prom related services and will no doubt have handouts, perhaps supplied by a local printing company, for attendees to take home. This is a way for them to remind the community which businesses are investing in their young people.

Now its 24th year, the graduation party is held in the gym and the $130 per student cost is picked up by the organization. The party, which is attended by nearly 90% of the graduating class, features a DJ, bounce house, and video games and is held in the school gym. The pool is open for the party as well. The dress sale is on Little City Road, Regional District 17 Central Offices, Higganum on March 16, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
