Golf tournament on course for late August start

A quick 20-minute drive will get Enfield golfers to Ellington Ridge Country Club for the 2013 Johnson Memorial Hospital and Medical Staff’s Benefit Golf Tournament later this month.

An expected 140 or so guests will enjoy a full 18-hole course, and proceeds from this year’s event will be used to buy equipment for the hospital’s Emergency Department and also to assist the Johnson Memorial Hospital Staff Scholarship Program in providing financial aid to seven local students. Last year’s event netted $41,000, which aided in purchasing the hospital’s new C-Arm.

The annual event opens with an hour-long BBQ lunch starting at noon, followed by a Shotgun start of 18 holes using a ‘scramble’ format, which means each shot is played from the location of the best shot in the previous round. Participants will be using golf carts, and prizes for the low Gross Team will be awarded at the dinner following the golfing at 6:00 pm.

The driving range will be opened during the afternoon and there will be competitions on the green as well. A silent auction will also be featured, and the event will offer an advertising opportunity for area businesses who wish to sponsor a team or send a representative, no doubt equipped with digital business cards, for networking purposes.

The tournament is to be held at Ellington Country Club, 56 Abbott Road, Ellington and is scheduled for Monday, August 26, beginning at noon. Pre-event registration is required with an entry fee of $150 for each participant. Registration and sponsorships are available by calling Lisa DeGray at 1-860-684-8161.
