Costco to come to Mt. Pleasant

The wholesale club company Costco is planning to open a store in Mt. Pleasant this year.

There is a parcel of land in the north end of town in the Carolina Park development on which the company will build a store spanning 154,000. The land is located at Park Avenue Boulevard and Faison Road, and was purchased in late 2016 when Costco signed a deal with the Carolina Park Development Corp.

Brian Keels of Carolina Park said that once the store opens, there will be a traffic light at U.S. Highway 17 and Faison Road, and the intersection will have additional lanes for turning. He added that construction has already begun.

This store will be the second Costco store in the Charleston region, the first one being in West Ashley. It opened in 2001 and is 150,000 square feet in area. There are four other locations in the state, which can be found in Spartanburg, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, and Columbia.

This Costco will be the first members-only retail outlet in Mt. Pleasant, a town with a population of 86,000 that has had no such store until now.

Stores such as Costco might consider using banner printing companies to create banners for new site, as this is a good way for residents to learn about any upcoming plans or developments.
