The exhibit Carl Grupp Permanent Art Collection Highlights is showing at the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana College until January 25. This is a free exhibit and the gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10 am-5 pm and Saturday from noon-5 pm. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit on January 13 from 5-7pm which will feature a ‘Director’s talk’ by Dr. Lindsay J. Twa.

The exhibit features over 3,500 artworks from international artists such as Winslow Homer, Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso. It also features the work of local artist Craig Carver and a group of prints by Kathe Kollwitz. As Dr. Twa has said, the works have been:

“chosen to focus this particular exhibition on highlighting some of our most recent gifts and acquisitions. We’re looking forward to sharing these with the community.”

Art is important to the community at large; not only does it challenge the senses it also inspires others. Those who work in Sioux Falls businesses, including printing companies, can find inspiration for their own work by viewing the art work of others. Marketing is a large part of business and artwork has been inspiring designers and those in the graphics industry since the beginning. Marketing has also inspired artists such as Andy Warhol to paint masterpieces. Artists and business people have much to teach one another and those who don’t understand that will be left behind. Exhibits such as this which choose the highlights of a collection are good starting points for those who wish to understand the symbiosis between art and marketing.
