Stow residents can expect a miracle

A miracle is taking place about 16 miles from Stow, where Barberton’s Magical Theatre Company is presenting ‘Miracle on 34th Street’, the classic story of Santa Claus and his adventures working for Macy’s in New York City.

Most people probably know the 1947 film, which stars Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle, who is a last-minute substitute for Macy’s Santa in the traditional Thanksgiving Day parade. Kris’ appearance is such a hit, he is hired to work in the store, but complications ensue when he reveals he really is Santa Claus. His claim leads to a court case to determine his identity—and his sanity.

The stage version of the story has director Holly Barkdoll at the helm. There are 34 roles in the play and they are assumed by 24 actors; the largest cast ever assembled by Magical Theatre. After some time was spent finding the perfect actors to play Kris’ and youngster Susan, Bob Parenti, a professional actor from Uniontown, and Leah Greczanik, a Norton resident, have been cast in the role. Actors come from all over the region, including Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, and Stow.

There are three performances left to view: Friday, December 20 at 7:30 pm, and Saturday, December 21, at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Tickets are $11.00 and $13.00, and are available through the theater’s website.

The theater could work with brochure printers to create a handout, suggesting that if patrons like this show, they should return for upcoming productions.
