Broadway is coming to Newark

Newark residents who enjoy music theater and supporting a good cause can do both this weekend

Residents of the area, including Newark locals, are gearing up for the ‘20th Century Flyer’, a bi-annual review put on by the 20th Century Club that allows audience members to enjoy some of their favorite tunes as they help raise money for Camp O’Bannon.

The theme of this year’s review is ‘Licking County on Broadway’, and it will feature favorite numbers from Broadway shows. Among the star players are Newark mayor Jeff Hall and Robert Hoover, who is a judge in the Licking County Juvenile Court.

Camp O’Bannon, a summer camp, serves approximately 400 young people from Licking County each year, and attendance is free. The 20th Century Club supports Camp O’Bannon all year long through various fundraising events, but the Flyer is the largest single fundraiser the group puts on. The money raised goes to defray the camp’s operating expenses, including meals, utilities, and paying camp counselors.

The show goes on at 8:00 pm on February 21 and 22, in the Newark High School auditorium. Tickets are $15 and are available through the 20th Century Club’s website, or at Park National Bank.

The club could work with a banner printing company to create flags to mount near the school, celebrating the event.
