Yet another large crowd turned out this year at the ‘For the Love of Chocolate’ festival in Medina.

The event, which just celebrated its 16th year, took place at the Medina Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 2. Whether those in attendance read about the event in the local newspaper, noticed some flyer printing, poster printing, or simply heard about the chocolate fest by word of mouth, numerous guests turned out to sample delicious cookies, truffles, cakes, pies, brownies, fudge, and more provided by chocolatiers throughout the region.

Proceeds from ticket sales and money raised at the annual festival will go to benefit the local American Red Cross. Beth Kilchenmen, who is Executive Director for the American Red Cross of Medina, stated:

“The community really seems to like this event. You go through the horrible winter months and January can be pretty bad. It’s an introduction to Valentine’s Day and it’s chocolate.”

The weekend of chocolate confectionary fun actually kicked off the day before, on Friday, with the yearly Decadent Chocolate Dessert and Children’s Chocolate Cookie Contest taking place at Beuhler’s Fresh Market. Nearly 40 confectioners of all skill levels and ages turned out to bake up some chocolate fun for the contest. After the judges had each sampled a taste of each entry, the remaining confectionary delights were portioned into separate containers to be sold at the bake sale at the For the Love of Chocolate festival.

All proceeds raised through the festival stay in Medina County to aid the American Red Cross in providing emergency care to those within the community during disaster.
