Lebanon-area runners on their marks for two races

Runners in the Lebanon, Ohio, area have events coming up that will provide both a challenge and enjoymentenjoyable at the same time – a 10K and half-marathon.

The race, called the ‘Little Miami Half Marathon & 10K’, will be held in Morrow, Ohio, which is about nine miles from Lebanon later this month. This is the fourth year for the event and it is open to men and women.

The course is flat and beautiful, since it lies along the Little Miami River, and the entire race takes place on a shaded bike path, chosen because of the heat and humidity of Ohio summers. The start and finish lines are both in Morrow, with runners passing through Kings Mills and South Lebanon as. Runners will receive a shirt, plus all finishers of the half-marathon will receive medals.

Last year’s half-marathon saw more than 550 people successfully complete the course. The winner of the 13.1-mile race was Kevin Herd, whose time was 1:14:13, but another runner stole the spotlight; Mike Fremont, who finished the course in 2:56:26, was 90 years of age at the time and set a world record for its oldest finisher.

Benefits from the race go to Friends of the Little Miami State Park, as well as Ohio State Parks. The Friends, a non-profit group, seeks to preserve and improve Little Miami State Park by helping park management with maintenance, safety, and other issues.

The race takes place on August 18, and race organizers could work with banner printing experts to create colorful banners to mark the start and finish of the race.
