Fairfield set to enjoy Summer Music Games

June 3, 2013 by

Fairfield, Ohio, residents who enjoy the music of drum and bugle corps are set for a treat this month, when the Summer Music Games arrives in the area.

The event is an international competition for members of drum and bugle corps from around the world. Over 1,000 competitors, ranging in age from 14 to 22, are expected to compete.

The units typically are composed of 150 members, including brass players, drummers, and a color guard. Many of the best corps in the world will be present, including ones from Pennsylvania, Texas, Wyoming, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Georgia – not forgetting Ohio’s own Bluecoats and the Cincinnati Tradition.

The Bluecoats will present an event called the ‘Full Corps Clinic’ from 3:30 pm until 5:00 pm on June 25, which is also the day of the competition.

The competition is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm at the fairfield Stadium, which will open its gates to the public at 5:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance until June 24, by calling (513) 858-DRUM, and are priced at $10, $14, and $18. When bought at the gate on the day of the event, prices are $12, $16, and $20. Tickets go on sale at 10:00 am.

Event organizers will no doubt want to get the word out about the event, so they could work with brochure printers to create a mailer to be sent to area residents, listing the competitors and explaining what drum and bugle corps is.
