Handball tournament comes to Cincinnati

In Cincinnati, Ohio, fans of the fast-paced game of handball have reason to smile, since a national handball tournament is slated to be held at Veterans Park, located in Green Township.

The township recently worked with the Greater Cincinnati Handball Association (GCHA) to build an additional court in the park. The efforts paid off, and the 2013 United States Handball Association Junior 3-Wall National Championship will be played in Veterans Park from Thursday, July 18, 2013 through Sunday the 21st.

This is the second year in a row that a national handball contest has taken place in Veterans Park, which is located at 6321 Harrison Avenue in Cincinnati.

Tony Rosiello, who is a Green Township Trustee, said the community thought the tournament was a great event for both the township and the wider Cincinnati areaIt is certainly generating a lot of interest, with participants traveling long distances to participate, some coming from California and others from France and Ireland, according to Dave Laxton, who is a GCHA member.

Players at this level range in age from nine to 19, and will be competing in various contests including doubles, singles, and mixed doubles. Laxton expects approximately 100 players to participate, with their families in attendance.

Officials from the Cincinnati Handball Association could consider working with brochure printers to create a program for attendees listing the players, as well as the history of the sport and mission of the association. Further information can be found on the organization’s website.
