Upscale Akron apartment building under construction

A new Akron apartment complex, 401 Lofts, is currently under construction on Cedar and Main streets. The upscale complex, located on 2.2 acres that formerly was home to Parrish McIntyre, is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in August 2013.

Middleburgh Heights-based Richland Communities is building the high-end apartment building. This is the same company that constructed the 22 Exchange, a neighboring complex. In contrast to 22 Exchange, however, 41 Lofts will not require residents to be students enrolled at an accredited university. Project manager Michael Weiss stated that 401 Lofts will attract students as well as young professionals and individuals who wish to live in the downtown Akron area.

This high-end apartment complex will include such features as a full fitness center, tanning beds, on-site parking, a heated pool, yoga studio, conference rooms and a movie screening room capable of seating 15 people. The complex will also include a computer lab. Weiss stated,

“There’s a little bit of everything.”

The building, which is shaped like a J, has been completely framed and will soon be under a roof. It may still be a year before the complex is ready for occupancy, but progress is steady and plans are on track. The upscale complex is a $12 million project and will likely rent apartments at a similar price as 22 Exchange, which starts renting at $600 per month and rents by the bedroom. Weiss estimated that rent prices for 401 Lofts would probably start around $700 per month. Promotion of this sort of construction is often done using brochure printing.

401 Lofts will have 189 units with 323 bedrooms. Each bedroom includes a bathroom. Studio apartments will also be available in the complex.
