Annual First Night in Akron a hit

The 17th Annual First Night in Akron on December 31 was another success this year as crowds turned out to ring in the New Year with two fireworks celebrations and a variety of other fun activities and events.

A number of guests enjoyed a chilly and exhilarating horse-drawn wagon ride along the snowy streets of South Main Street. A total of 10 various venues were open to guests who needed to step inside and warm up or participate in a variety of events. A number of couples either renewed their vows or got married at the Akron Civic Theatre. Chinese paper crafting and other activities were also available throughout the evening.

Exciting community events are typically announced to the public in the days leading up to the activity with banner printing, flyer printing, and other advertising means. Businesses in the area may also take the opportunity to draw in extra business at this time, employing local print companies to provide a variety of advertisements or business card printing.

The first countdown for New Years’ Eve occurred at 9:00 pm and was immediately followed with a colorful fireworks show. The final countdown to midnight was marked with yet another delightful display of fireworks, officially welcoming in the first day of 2013.

This year’s First Night celebration marked the 17th running year for the New Year’s Eve event in Akron. The event is an alcohol-free, family-friendly celebration of the arts and culture of the Akron area.
