On Saturday, April 14th and Sunday, April 15th, the Red River Valley Woodcarvers will be hosting their 37th Annual Red River Valley Woodcarvers Show and Competition at the Doublewood Inn located at 1333 13th Avenue South in Fargo, North Dakota. On Saturday, the show will run from 12:30pm to 5pm and on Sunday, the show will run from 12:30pm to 4pm.

At this year’s 37th Annual Red River Valley Woodcarvers Show and Competition, the organizers are expecting between 50 and 70 woodcarvers from various states and Canada. All the carvers in attendance will be bringing a number of their carvings to share with the public and to be juried. This showcase will also have live demonstrations, woodcarving and tool vendors, and supplies available for sale. There are several categories that the carvers will be competing in including relief, animals, stylized, caricatures, birds, human figures, chip carving, fish, amphibians, reptiles, religious, mythical, unusual, canes and walking sticks, and non-wood, just to name a few, and there are many others.

There will be a special carving category where competitors will compete to carve an elephant starting from a block of wood no larger than twelve inches square. Prizes for this will be for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and will receive a cash reward of $200, $100, and $50. This prize is sponsored by the Wahpeton Carving Weekend. This year’s featured carver is Paul Driscoll.
