Locals pitch in for baseball-themed charity dash

Baseball fans from the St. Peters area are invited to usher in the new season by participating in a family-friendly activity that benefits local youth.

During the last weekend of the month, United Services for Children will be joining forces with the Catch Twenty-Two Foundation to host the Dugout Dash in nearby Cottleville. Stationery printing may be on the increase as these non-profit organizations correspond with each other in the weeks leading up to the event.

Children and adults will be able to take part in either a 5K run or a 1K walk. The race courses will begin at Legacy Park and wind onto the trails of the Dardenne Greenway. Contenders will be grouped into age categories. Those who participate in the 5K will be timed, and the top three runners in each division will receive medals.

The first 500 individuals who register for the event will receive complimentary Dugout Dash caps. On race day, runners and walkers will be welcome to wear T-shirts, jerseys, and hats that feature the names of their favorite baseball teams.

Local rock band Doppler FX will provide live entertainment for the crowd. Fredbird, the mascot of the St. Louis Cardinals, will also be on hand to energize athletes and spectators.

The Dugout Dash is scheduled for Saturday, March 29 at 8:30 am. Those interested in participating may call (636) 926-2700 for more information.
