Young musicians honor veterans honored by them

Veterans Holiday Celebration is the title and theme of the St. Charles County Youth Orchestra (SCCYO) winter concert on December 15. The concert will feature the dedication of a flag that was recently given to the orchestra by the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America (Post 458). In turn, the program will include the Armed Forces Salute, along with more standard holiday fare.

Tickets, regularly $4 for adults and $2 for children, are available free of charge at the door to all veterans. Grace Baptist Church (3601 Ehlmann Road) will host the concert, beginning at 1:00 pm.

The whole orchestra, consisting of more than 100 young people, will perform for the dedication, including offering the national anthem and a selection from the Crown Imperial Coronation March. The three ensembles that make up the orchestra will also play individually. A gift basket auction in support of the Larry Hart Memorial Scholarship will be undertaken as part of the concert as well.

SCCYO was founded in 1996 to support the musical education of youth from St. Charles County and environs. Students in grades 2 – 12 participate in the program, which accepts members through annual and ongoing auditions, although these should be made by appointment. The Orchestra’s mission is to foster musical competence through opportunities to study, play, and perform.

Looking ahead, SCCYO’s spring concert is set for March 16 at the Lindenwood Cultural Center. Information about performances, fundraisers, auditions, and other orchestra activities may be found through the efforts of brochure printers and flyer distributors, as well as through the website and by telephone at 636.916.0515.
