Festival in Columbia to celebrate new music composers

July 7, 2013 by

The 2013 Mizzou International Composers Festival is coming to Columbia this month. A six-day festival, originally known as the Mizzou New Music Summer Festival, it is a presentation of the Mizzou New Music Initiative.

The festival will attract approximately 158 composers – not just from Missouri but from all over the world. It will feature a large array of performances, workshops, lessons and demo presentations. Alarm will Sound will be returning as the ensemble-in-residence of the festival, and there will also be eight resident composers.

Those taking part had to submit an application by November 2012 to be considered. Each applicant had to submit three original scores and recordings of their works. The resident composers chosen had their tuition, room, and board paid for by the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation.

Columbia printing companies are no doubt helping the organizers prepare for this event by providing products such as tickets and posters for advertising, with catalog printing perhaps among the services in demand to showcase the musical pieces being performed.

The Mizzou International Composers Festival will take place at the University of Missouri School of Music from July 22 – 27. Tickets for the full festival are $40 for adults or $20 for students, while VIP passes are $80, which includes a reception with the performers and premium seating. Tickets are also available for single performances for $18 for adults and $10 for students. Those looking for more info about the event should call 573-884-6247.
