Sock drive keeps clinic on its toes

December 18, 2012 by

A local clinic is again encouraging Rochester residents to put their best foot forward during its annual sock drive.

This year, The Rochester Clinic on Wellner Drive N.E. is accepting donations of new socks, which it will donate to the Rochester Women’s Shelter.

Anyone who drops by the clinic between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday to Friday with clean socks will enjoy a free herbal tea courtesy of the clinic. Socks for everyone, from babies to children and adults, are heartily accepted from now through December 27. It is requested that socks be made from a synthetic/natural fiber blend. Poster printing for the sock campaign would be an excellent way of providing details of a charitable initiative such as this one, with strong visuals depicting the need.

In 2011, the Rochester Clinic on Wellner Drive N.E. took in 500 or more pairs of socks, which is just one of the items on the Women’s Shelter Christmas wish list. There is always a great need for other necessities, such as medicine, diapers, clothing, and personal care items.

The Rochester Women’s Shelter, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, cares for women and their children who are the victims of domestic violence. Families are supported by passionate community advocates who help these women and their children in every aspect of care.

On some occasions, women who are assisted by the shelter have left their homes in haste and left everything behind, arriving at the shelter with nothing.
