Oakdale workshop to provide introduction to wood turning techniques

A workshop is on the way for the Oakdale area that will give the public a chance to craft a wooden piece they will be able to take home with them.

Maplewood’s Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has organized the activity, which has been planned for a Saturday afternoon. Those who participate will use a lathe and wood turning techniques that utilize carbide turning tools to produce their very own Manhattan style pen.

After the wooden portion of the item is finished with a stain or other coating and complete, the pen will be assembled. All the tools and materials are included in the ticket price for the workshop, which has been set at $75 each. The organizers noted that everyone is welcome to take part, whether or not they have any previous woodworking experience. The goal of the event is to learn new skills while having fun. Promotional postcard printing services for this type of function can be supplied by an area printer.

The Lathe 101 Pens/Handles session has been planned for the afternoon of February 3, and is scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon. It will be taking place at 1872 Beam Avenue in Maplewood, and anyone who would like to learn more about this, or any of the other classes hosted at this location, can visit the Rockler company website for more details.
