Hiring our Heroes launched to help veterans

The chairman of a New Brighton company, APi Group, has called for more employers in Minnesota to offer employment opportunities to veterans of the US military.

Lee Anderson is also a member of the Hiring our Heroes Veterans Employment Advisory Council and believes that retired service members have lots to offer potential employers, with huge talents and resources available.

The ‘Hiring our Heroes’ job fair in Minnesota was hosted on August 2 by Recruit Military and the US Chamber of Commerce, held at TCF Bank Stadium. The job fair aimed towards veterans and the spouses of military members, as they face a future of unemployment after leaving military service. Since September 11 2001, the rate of unemployment among veterans who served since that date is 12.1%, while the average rate of unemployment stands at 8.2%. For veterans who served prior to September 11 2001, the unemployment rate is more than 20 %, prompting Anderson to make his rallying call.

The National Chamber Foundation and the US Chamber launched the program Hiring our Heroes in March 2011, to help veterans all over America. A number of Minnesota employers already recognize the merits of taking on veterans, including Prudential, Target, and 3M. Since the launch, there have been 225 job fairs in 48 states, possibly publicized with the help of local flyer printing services.

Anderson is calling for more support for service members who are looking for work in civilian sectors, following a period of their lives where they protect and serve the people of America.
