Art and literature collide in Kansas City

Kansas City will be hosting both the RT Booklovers Convention and the Brookside Art Annual during the first weekend in May.

The book event will be presenting approximately 450 authors, 125 workshops, book giveaways, games, contests, and prizes. There will be events for both readers and writers.

One contest will be ‘American Idol: the Writer Edition’, for which the winner will receive a one-year contract with a literary agent. There will also be costume parties, book signings, an e-book expo, a book fair, and a graphic novel event. Selected authors who will be appearing include Sylvia Day, Brenda Jackson, and Heather Graham. It just might be an ideal weekend for book lovers and writers.

The 28th annual Brookside Art Annual will feature art for display and sale, children’s activities, food, and musical entertainment. Various establishments in the downtown area will be displaying the artworks, and it will be the perfect opportunity to discover new artists and to pick up a gift for the upcoming Mother’s Day.

Both events will likely attract visitors from all over the area, including nearby Overland Park. Local printing companies are no doubt help organizers to market the events by providing services like poster and flyer printing.

The 30th RT Booklovers Convention will take place at the Sheraton Kansas City from May 1- 5. Daily passes are $99, although some events such as the book fair and graphic novel expo are free. The Brookside Art Annual takes place in the Brookside Shopping District and is free to attend from May 3 – 5.
