Olathe’s Theatre in the Park announces its 2014 season

Theater lovers in Olathe, Kansas, have a lot to look forward to with the Theatre in the Park’s upcoming season. It was revealed this month that the theater plans to open with the classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta ‘The Pirates of Penzance’, which it will perform in June.

These performances mark the first time the theater has performed ‘Pirates’, which is one of the most popular of all the Gilbert and Sullivan operas. The show features a young man named Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to the pirates, and what happens when he falls in love with a girl named Mabel. Although Frederic is the putative hero, it is the Pirate King who usually steals the show.

The next production is ‘Guys and Dolls’, which the company last staged 14 years ago. This is followed by the whimsically titled ‘Honk’, based on ‘The Ugly Duckling’, a classic fairy tale from Hans Christian Andersen. ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ is a musical adaptation of the great Mark Twain novel and ‘Ragtime’, based on the E.L. Doctorow novel, takes a musical look at life in the United States at the turn of the 20th Century. Performance dates and times are listed on the theater’s website.

Four of the productions are new this year, and Tim Blair, its artistic director, has announced his excitement in offering these works, both for the sake of the audience and the performers.

Theater managers could consider working with a poster printing company to create colorful items for display throughout Olathe, giving performance details.
