The 2012 Valor Awards Golf Tournament presented by the Lawrence KS Chamber of Commerce will take place at the Alvamar Golf Course on May 11 beginning at 11:30 am. Golf fees are $100 and $75 for first responders. Proceeds go to support the scholarship program which provides $1000 grants to the children of the winners of the Valor Awards.

Lunch will be served beginning at 11:30 am and all those who register will receive a golf gift. In addition to golf, there will be several contests such as the prize for the longest drive, a hole-in-one prize and beverages and snacks throughout the day. Dinner and the golf awards presentations will take place from 5-7 pm.

There are several sponsorships available for the golf tournament beginning at $500. All sponsors will be mentioned in the event program which will most likely be provided by Lawrence printing companies. Sponsors also receive tickets depending on how much they pay.

The Valor Awards are given out every autumn; they include Gold, Silver and Bronze Valor Honor awards, the Meritorious Services Honor Award and the Life Saving Valor Honor Award. Those nominated for this year’s awards consist of 14 police officers and firefighters; they were nominated by their departments.

It’s important that we honor and remember those first responders who help to keep the community safe. They put their lives on the line for us every day and sometimes they go beyond the call of duty to save someone in danger.
