Beach Bash and Air Show set for the weekend

July 5, 2012 by

For an entertaining event for the family, the Beach Bash on July 6, 2012, promises fun, food, and an amazing air show featuring the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, while helping local charities. The event is one of the attractions on offer during the South Shore Air Show and takes place in Marquette Park Beach in Gary, Indiana, which is about eight minutes away from Portage.

Aerial acrobatics will be performed above Lake Michigan by civilian and military acts for three nights during the Air Show, which runs July 6 – 8, 2012. The show starts at 5:30 pm with fireworks concluding the show. Altogether, there are 12 performers scheduled, including the Air Force flying team.

The South Shore Air Show is free for all guests, while the tickets for the Beach Bash party are $75. The ticket will include two drinks, a professionally catered picnic on the beach, private viewing area, and premium parking for one vehicle, along with the chance to meet the Thunderbirds in person. Proceeds will benefit the Challenger Learning Center, Indiana Parenting Institute, or Webb House, Inc., depending on the purchaser’s choice.

The Thunderbirds invite the public to watch their practice session at 3:30 pm and stay for the other fun activities, including a beer garden, food tents, merchandise vendors, military displays, and a Kid Zone for the children.

The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority is collaborating with local organizations to sell tickets which, along with promotional flyers, have probably been purchased through print companies in order to support this event. For more information, call 219-554-2229.
