Annual Woodstock Challenge Road Race returns for the 36th year

May 30, 2013 by

The weather is warming up and the running season has begun in earnest. The Woodstock Challenge Road Race will be taking place next month and is a presentation of the Woodstock Recreation Department.

The road race consists of the choice between a 10K, 5K, 1 mile, and a 1/2 mile race for children. Participants pay a registration fee and also collect pledges from friends, family and neighbors. Proceeds from the race will go to support Special Olympics training programs and Recreation Department programs.

Racers will be divided into various age groups and first, second and third place winners will receive a plaque. The overall male and female winners will each win a plaque and a gift certificate for Recreation Department programs.

After the race, there will be food, refreshments and a pool party. Racers will likely come from all over the region, including nearby McHenry. Organizers will likely be working with local printing companies to prepare such items as pledge forms, banners, and printed T-shirts.

The Woodstock Challenge Road Race will take place at the Woodstock Water Works Family Aquatic Center in Emricson Park on June 15. Registration fees for the 10K and the 5K are $25 for adults and $15 for youth; fees for the 1 mile or 1/2 mile race are $15 for those aged 17 and under. All participants will receive a T-shirt while supplies last. Swimming will be available to all participants until 11:30 AM. For more information call 815-338-4368.
