Weekend of dog shows held in Lake County

Deerfield’s Lake County held the 29th Annual Chain O’Lakes Kennel Club Dog Show over the weekend of January 24-26, forming part of a weekend of dog shows held at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Chain O’Lakes Kennel Club held their dog show on the Friday and Sunday while the Park Shore Kennel Club had a dog show on the Saturday.

The kennel clubs showed more than 3,000 dogs combined. Entries included Wauconda’s Kris and Al Breyer with their Basenji Cairo and St. Louis’ Maureen McCreery with her whippet Bob.

The president of the Chain O’Lakes Kennel Club, Ken Murray, was also a judge for the show and commented that dog shows are all about whittling down. They started out with seven groups of dogs totaling 120 breeds, but only seven go on to be best-of-show. Murray, who is the owner of Dominoe Pet Resort, started showing dogs when he was 12 years old.

The Chain O’Lakes Kennel Club dog show brought in dogs from around the United States and some contestants from Canada. Murray attributes this to the great judges at the show, saying professional judges look at the dogs and not the people showing them.

Shows like this often seek help from local print companies, with flyer printing helping to spread the word about the dog show and banner printing helping patrons find it.
