Middletown to walk for a cause

May 25, 2017 by

Middletown will be hosting an event that will ask those who take part to, quite literally, take steps to prevent domestic violence.

This will be the first year for ‘Walking Out on Domestic Violence’, which has been organized as both an awareness raiser and also a fundraiser. Members of the community are invited to gather their friends, families, coworkers, and anyone else they can, and join in the activity. Along with this demonstration of support, refreshments will be served to those who come out, and a keynote speaker will address the crowd.

Those who plan on taking part are highly encouraged to be as imaginative as possible in their attire for the day, and also their team spirit, as awards will be presented to both the most creative individual and team. A stationery printing provider will be able to both design and produce these types of products.

The funds raised during the walk will be used to help support the programming offered by New Horizons Domestic Violence Services, and a portion will also be earmarked for the Shirley A, Moody Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to a local youth who is pursuing his or her post-secondary education.

Walking out on Domestic Violence will take place on June 17 in Middletown’s Harbor Park. More details can be found by contacting the organizers at walkingoutondv@gmail.com.
