Middletown group to celebrate raku-style pottery

Middletown’s Wesleyan Potters will be hosting an event that will focus on the art of raku (Japanese style) pottery, while at the same time celebrating the works of current students and providing an opportunity to socialize with other potters.

The group’s events committee has organized an afternoon of pottery that will be open to members, students and guests. The ticket price will include raku firing of up to three items, as well as luncheon of barbecued chicken, side dishes, and a dessert. Bisque will be available to purchase at a cost of $5 each for anyone who has not brought their own.

Those who plan on participating in the day’s activities are encouraged to make sure they glaze their pots before arriving at the event, as this will help to keep the afternoon running smoothly. A shelf will be labeled and reserved for glazed pieces. Flyers can be placed throughout the area to let the public know when and where a function like this is taking place.

This afternoon of pottery has been planned for July 15th from 3:30 until 6:30 pm. The workshop is located at 350 South Main Street in Middletown. Further information about the event has been added to the group’s calendar, which can be found on its website along with details about the group and its other events.
