The Kent Island Federation of the Arts is a non-profit organization that provides art education to adults and children, and this year is its 50th anniversary. The organization holds several art shows throughout the year, including an annual student showcase which occurs each March.

Currently, the exhibit ‘The Human Form Show: the Body in Art’ is taking place at the Federation of Arts until March 2. This is a judged exhibition and this year’s winner of Best in Show is ‘Jonathan’ by Evie Baskin. Prizes have also been given out for first, second, and third in various categories, including watercolor, pastel, mixed media, and sculpture.

The March student showcase will take place from March 6 – 30. It is an invitation only showcase for students of Kent Island and Grasonville school. An opening reception will take place on March 9 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, during which guests will have the opportunity to view the exhibit and possibly talk to some of the artists.

Both of these exhibits will give people in the community the opportunity to see what the current art scene in the Stevensville area is like and to learn who to look out for in the future. No doubt local printing companies are helpful to organizers in terms of providing marketing materials, such as flyers and posters.

The Kent Island Federation of the Arts is open Wednesday through Saturday. For more information on either of these shows, call 410-643-7424.
