Laurel offers gifts in support of wildlife

The Patuxent Research Refuge is located on 12,750 acres, and is home to several species of migratory birds that thrive in forest, meadow, and wetland areas. The Friends of Patuxent is a fundraising organization that helps to support educational programs, exhibits, and research. The group holds several fundraising events yearly to raise money and the annual Holiday Bazaar is one way in which it raises funds for the Refuge. Laurel printing companies probably do their part in helping design and print flyers to advertise the fund raising efforts of the organization.

The Holiday Bazaar will feature baked goods for sale, handmade items such as jewelry, original photographs, and paintings. Items will both be new and slightly used. There will also be crafts in which children to take part, such as origami ornaments, make-a-card, and other ‘make and take’ projects. Visitors can also have their picture taken with a polar bear.

Authors will be in attendance signing their new books and the Wildlife Images Bookstore will be open for business. In addition, there will be a silent auction featuring such items as a 1903 Victrola. Proceeds from the auction will go towards programs at the Patuxent Research Refuge. Those who have not finished doing their holiday shopping will be sure to find something here to appeal to the friends and family on their gift lists.

The 2nd annual Friends of Patuxent Holiday Bazaar will take place at the National Wildlife Visitor Center at the Patuxent Research Refuge tomorrow, December 1, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Admission is free. For more information, call 301-497-5789.
