Annual cycling event rolling into Frederick

August 8, 2013 by

Bicyclists of all ages and experience levels will soon be gathering in Frederick to take part in a number of scenic rides.

In just over a week, the ‘Tour de Frederick’ event will be returning to the area for the fourth straight year. Printing companies may well be seeing a rise in business as the organizers of this long-distance cycling extravaganza order finish line banners and informational materials in anticipation of the athletes’ arrival.

Participants will have their choice of several routes, ranging from a family-friendly course that runs through downtown Frederick to an option that totals 100 miles and leads cyclists over the state line into Pennsylvania. Other options will include a 40-mile ride to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain and a 62-mile ride through the Frederick County countryside.

The bike rides will be offered over a three-day time frame, with one or more rides available each morning. Attendees will also be encouraged to participate in a variety of other activities, including dinners, socials, guided night rides, and a ghost tour.

Frederick’s Hilton Garden Inn (7226 Corporate Court) will serve as the departure and ending point for most of the routes. The family-friendly ride will depart from the Frederick County Visitor Center (151 South East Street) on the last day of the event.

The Tour de Frederick will run from Friday, August 16 through Sunday, August 18. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward the local Boys and Girls Club.
