Festival shows importance of arts education

The Memphis Urban Art Festival weekend is taking place next month. It is presented by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis.

The three days will be filled with creative activities, art and education.

Participants are still being accepted for the Artistic Excellence competition where competitors will compete in dance battles. There will be a business showcase featuring a variety of Memphis-based small and medium-sized businesses, live cooking demonstrations and a presentation about Academy Memphis Leadership. In addition, several local community and arts organizations will be on hand to provide information about their programs and services.

There also will be musical performances, dance exhibitions and theatrical presentations to enjoy. Food and drink will be available for purchase during the weekend.

The Urban Kids’ Zone is set to feature games, arts activities and entertainment. The marketplace will be selling items such as homemade arts and crafts and general merchandise.

The arts are important in Memphis and no doubt many residents will wish to attend at least one day of the festival. Local stationery printers often provide marketing materials such as posters to spread the word.

The Memphis Urban Art Festival weekend will take place at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis from July 14 to 16 from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM each day. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Visit the Facebook page for more information.
