Medford youngster wins national essay contest

A 7th-grade student from Hendrick Middle School in medford, Oregon recently received a call from the Natural High Organization about her essay.

The call was to tell Jaiden Gallery that she was the winner of a national essay contest. Her anti-drug essay, which managed to beat out all of the other competition in the Natural High 2017 Video and Essay Contest, talked about how she receives a natural high from playing soccer, and drew from her own family experience of addictive substances.

Jaiden further discussed these issues in her essay, saying:

“Drugs and alcohol make you forget what’s important. Like family, jobs, bills and even your physical health. My parents were always doing drugs with me and my siblings around… I live with one of my brothers and my grandparents because my parents weren’t capable of taking care of my siblings and me.”

Jaiden will be receiving $1,000 for her essay and a trip to the 2017 Natural High Gala in San Diego, where she will be able to see Dancing with the Stars’ Chelsie Hightower
