September 7, 2017 by

Matthews Chamber of Commerce will be presenting the town’s annual art show, and this year is adding jazz entertainment. It will be the ArtWAlk & JazzFest of Matthews. This will be the 32nd year for the event, and over 1,500 guests are expected to attend.

More than 125 art exhibitors will be competing in the juried competition. The original artwork will be in painting, sculpture, mixed media, clay, wood, basketry, print making, photography, metal, jewelry, glass, and fiber/leather varieties. The prize for Best in Show will be $500, Juror’s Choice will be $250, and three merit awards will be $125 each.

The artwork will also be available for purchase. Many artists will be handing out flyers and brochures containing contact information so guests can commission them for future custom work.

The Senior High School Art Competition, Scholarship and Exhibit will be in the Depot and everyone is invited to drop in and vote for their favorite entries. The interactive children’s art area will be bigger than ever this year.

A live jazz show will be in progress throughout the event and there will be plenty of snack vendors selling their special fall treats.

The ArtWalk & JazzFest will be September 30 from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm in front of the Library/Town Hall on the Town Green in Historic Downtown Matthews on Matthews Station Street.
