The 25th annual Matthews Alive Festival will be coming in a few weeks. The four-day event will have live entertainment, a Kids’ Connections, exhibits and parade.

Carol Hambridge has once again commissioned a poster design for the festival, and poster printing has begun with the winning dramatic collage representing the festival’s 25th year celebration. The design can also be found on the event’s flyers, t-shirts and other event promotional products.

This year’s Grand Marshal for the parade will be Lee Myers, the former Matthews mayor. Mr. Myers was instrumental in reviving the festival during his term in office from 1991 to 2009. This year’s parade will have a flyover, and individuals, groups and businesses with a 25th anniversary-themed floats will get in the parade for free.

Free concerts will begin with Chairmen of the Board. The Classic Rock Experience and a Prince tribute band, The Purple Xperience will headline the second night. Sammy Kershaw will bring his “Cadillac Style”, and the main stage will feature uptown Swagga, Painted Man and The Next Level Band of Charlotte.

The indoor stage will feature a hypnotist, a magician and a ventriloquist on the first night, songwriters on Sunday and an acapella ensemble on Monday.

A fireworks show will be the grand finale.

Mathews Alive will be over the Labor Day weekend from September 1st to September 4th in Downtown Matthews. The parade will step off September 2nd at 10:30 am.
