Massapequa makes a place for pets

Parents and kids in Massapequa Park will all have plenty to keep them interested at the ‘Kids Adopt a Shelter’ fun day this month.

Rescued dogs searching for their forever homes will be strutting their stuff to live music during the afternoon fashion show, and that is just one of the exciting activities taking place. In addition, there will also be a car and motorcycle show, fun games for kids, and even free airbrush tattoos. Live entertainment will be taking place all day, including a K9 demonstration and visits from surprise celebrities. There will also be raffles, gift bags for the first 150 guests and a variety of vendors.

Kids Adopt a Shelter is a nonprofit organization started by Sean Martin when he was only 11-years old. His desire was to help care for shelter pets and find ways to locate the best homes for each animal. The group’s volunteers are primarily children and they use events like this to raise funds and adopt out animals.

Car enthusiasts with a hot rod or a motorcycle they want to show off to the world are invited to join the charity car show. The cost is only $10 per vehicle. In preparation for an event like this, participants often visit a print company and get some flyers or booklet printing done to show off their efforts.

Kids Adopt a Shelter and Last Chance Animal Rescue combined forces to organize this event. Everyone is welcome and there is no admission fee to the fun day events. The excitement will run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 9 at the Petco on 5500 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa.
