Mansfield runs with the pack

The Methodist Mansfield Medical Center will be sponsoring the 1st annual Barks and Rec 5K and Barks in the Park in a few weeks. This will be a dog and human festival and run.

Runners can bring their pets, run with a dog from the Mansfield Animal Care & Control Shelter, or run solo. Participants must pre-register.

The $20 registration fee comes with a T-shirt sporting the event’s official graphic design, a doggie bandana, and a swag bag of coupons, promotional products, and assorted goodies donated by pet-oriented organizations, businesses and services. Part of these registration fees will be donated to the Mansfield Animal Shelter.

Many runners have been participating in a six-week stint with the Barks and Rec Running Club. They have paired with dogs from the local shelter and practiced on Saturday mornings with an instructor since early February.

After the race, every dog, their human, families, and friends are invited to attend Barks in the Park. The festival will have vendors selling pet-themed items in a doggy boutique shopping area, games, and activities. Food for both humans and dogs will be available for purchase. The festival will also feature a pet parade and a costume contest.

The 5K and Bark in the Park festival will be March 24 at Rose Park, 303 North Walnut Creek Drive. The 5k will kick off at 8:00 am and the festival will run from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
