Mansfield gets itself in a pickle

February 20, 2017 by

The one and only Annual St. Paddy’s Pickle Parade and Palooza is just around the corner. This is the fifth year for the parade, which celebrates the traditional Irish St. Patrick’s Day and our hometown connection with Best Maid Pickles.

Over 90 entries are expected in the parade. Some of them will be floats, bands, walking giant pickles, the Cowboy Cheerleaders, and animals. The Mansfield Pickle Queens and their Pickle Protectors will be on their float and down on the street dancing with spectators along the parade route. Classic cars, music groups, miniature bikes, a pet parade, and a Pickle Posse will also be marching down the middle of town.

Among the Palooza highlights will be the Pickle Market. Here, guests can purchase various kinds of pickles, get promotional products such as pickle-themed T-shirts, visit the more than 70 arts and crafts booths, and explore the retail and cottage food vendors.

The Pickle Playground will have activities and games for the children, a petting zoo, bounce houses, and crafts.

Contests will include speed eating jars of pickles, quick pickle juice drinking, and fried pie eating. The contests will be free and open to anyone 16 years old or older. Prizes will be awarded.

The Parade and Palooza are scheduled for March 18 in Downtown Mansfield on Main Street. The Pet Parade starts at noon and the main parade starts at 1:00 pm.
