Our fire department, along with its Safety Clowns, will be presenting is annual Fire Safety Palooza at the beginning of next month. The event will kick off National Fire Prevention Week. Families can learn about fire safety by participating in hands-on interactive demonstrations and activities.

Kids can run the Junior Firefighter Challenge course. Here, they will be outfitted with authentically detailed turn-out gear and helmets. They each shoulder a length of fire hose and climb an inflated 12-foot ladder, slide down it and “stop, drop, and roll”. After that, they will crawl through a tunnel, work on a wildfire line, and rescue a child-size mannequin.

The event will also have an ambulance and fire truck on display. Everyone will to see the live kitchen fire and the vehicle extrication demonstrations. Firefighter cut-outs will be available for families to take pictures of themselves in firefighter garb for possible later poster printing. The Mansfield Fire Safety Clowns will put on a special performance.

Food trucks and local vendor booths will be on hand. Even though the event will be free, guests will want to remember to bring money to buy merchandise and goodies.

The event is scheduled for October 1 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Mansfield Independent School District Center for the Performing Arts at 1110 W Debbie Lane.
