Local fitness enthusiasts prepare for pickleball tournament

It will soon be time again for locals to dust off their pickleball skills and head to the annual Coed Pickleball Tournament here in town in a few weeks. The format for this event will be a men’s and women’s doubles elimination bracket.

Pickleball is a cross between table tennis, tennis, and badminton. The court is a little smaller than a tennis court and the object of the game is to get a plastic whiffle ball over a three-foot high net using a wooden overgrown table tennis paddle. Those interested may want to get some practice time in on the courts before the big event.

Early registration will be $20, and as of August 18, the fee will go up to $25. Lunch will be included in the registration fee. The event has a 200-participant cap so those who are interested in participating will want to mark their calendars and get their registrations in as soon as possible.

The tournament will be held at the Mansfield Activities Center, 106 S Wisteria Street, Mansfield on August 24. Check in will be from 7:45 to 8:15 am, and games will start at 8:30 am. The tournament will close when a winner is announced. Participants must be at least 16 years of age, and should bring their own paddle to take part.
